# Migration notes: Nginx to Caddy

1. Inventory hosts, locations, redirects, headers, limits, timeouts, WebSockets, cache, rate limits and trusted proxies.
2. Identify NGINX Plus and third-party module dependencies; translate behavior, not directive names.
3. Preserve TLS trust. Verify the upstream CA and certificate hostname; do not disable verification as a shortcut.
4. Validate Caddy using the same modules as the production build.
5. Test on staging or alternate ports; both proxies cannot bind one IP and port simultaneously.
6. Exercise authentication, uploads, long requests, forwarded client IP, health checks and certificate renewal.
7. Keep the previous Nginx config and test a rollback before shifting traffic.
